Italian Dinner Party Menus and Recipes

Planning an Italian dinner party is the way to go for a beginner. An Italian menu can also be a show stopper for an expert. The menu for an Italian dinner always includes, pasta, tomatoes, seasonal vegetables, and an awesome dessert. To please your Italian dinner party guests even more, make an Italian beverage like cappuccino or serve Asti Spumante.

In Italian culture, dinner begins with antipasto. What is antipasti, you ask? Well, its an appetizer platter with meats cheeses, olives etc. This is so easy to do because you can just go to your deli counter and ask for small amounts of whatever Italian meats and cheeses they have available. The best part about it is, if there is any left over from your Italian dinner party, you make a great sandwich the next day.

My favorite go to book on culinary terms is Gastronomique by Larousse. In this book,Antipasti is described as " An Italian term for cold hors d'oeuvres. The name is derived from the Italian word Pasto (meal), with the Latin prefix ante (before). An antipasto might consist of Parma ham with fresh figs or a Piedmontese cheese fondue (raw vegetables accompanied by condiments and a melted cheese sauce), but is more usually a colorful assortment of starters served either as cocktail snacks with the aperitif or at the beginning of the meal instead of pasta. Typical antipasti, which are served with grissini (bread sticks), includes marinated vegetables and fish, seafood with lemon, olives, cooked pork products, mushroom salad, artichoke hearts, etc., arranged in hors d'oeuvres dishes."

For your Italian dinner party, you can put as many or as few items as you wish on your antipasti tray. It is important to serve a colorful combination of the appropriate items. Also, you will want to arrange them in an appetizing way. Here is a list of common Antipasti tray items for you to mix and match.
