I love Julia Child's DVD's

The movie Julie & Julia piqued my interest in Julia Child - The French Chef DVD's. I was able to get my hands on the the three DVD set and found that Julia in the original series is very charming. Obviously she was more hands on and active as well since she was younger. In the more recent PBS series she was basically inviting others to cook and asking them questions along the way. I liked the original series much better, even the black and white episodes that are peppered throughout the DVDs. Julia Child was funny, and the best part was her reaction when she made a mistake. She kept on going and patched things up as she went along, just like a any home cook would do. I got the sense that there was no director to yell "Cut" and no editing team to piece things together. The shows run from beginning to end with all of the wobbly camera moves, misplaced ingredients and awkward fumbling adding to Julia's charm. The DVD will inspire any beginning cook or Julia Child fan to not take themselves or their recipes to seriously. I cook because its what I want, and Julia Child showed me how to have fun while doing it.
