New Years Day Dinner Menu Ideas
A crown roast of pork or a nice piece of beef makes a dramatic entrance for a new years day dinner and it tastes as attractiveas it looks. It will be an nice change of pace from all the turkey for the past two months. This is also a good day to switch up the desserts too. Instead of serving something heavy like pound cake or pumpkin pie, serve something relatively light and easy. The menus will guide you along the way to celebratory New Years Party. You have a few options when it comes to having a new Years Party. You can choose to celebrate New Years Eve by have a full course plated dinner, or a cocktail party with appetizers and drinks. You can choose to be different and have friends over for a New years day brunch or plan a later buffet style dinner after everyone has fully recuperated from the previous days festivities.

Southern New Years Day Menu
A southern tradition is to eat collard greens an black eyed peas on New Years Day to ensure the remainder of your year will be great. The collard greens represent money and the Black eyes peas represent luck. Both of these items are easy to prepare, and I don't think it a coincidence that they are traditional served on New Years because they are both excellent when flavored with the leftover ham bone from Christmas.
You can serve the black eyed peas in a variety of different ways. They can be served cold in a salad or hot over steamed rice. One very traditional dish though is Hoppin' John.
Ever wonder how Hoppin John got its name? A sea captain in south carolina had a fellow captain over for dinner whose name was John. When a dish of hog jowl, peas and rice were set in front of John, the host remarked, "I don't know what it is, but hop in, John." And it has been Hoppin' John ever since.
A perfect way to serve the Southern menu would be buffet style. As I mention on the Buffet Dinner page, throwing a buffet dinner is one the easiest choice if you are doing things on yourown or with little help. This video gives you some quick tips on planning a New Years buffet.
